Naming CIDBN’s HPC cluster: vote for your favorite by May 19
First of all, thank you very much for submitting a name suggestion for our HPC cluster! There was a choice of ten names. On May 3, 2022, the institute’s executive board made a short list containing their favorite three suggestions. Now you are welcome to vote for your favorite name. Please, make a vote by May 19, 2022.
The short list:
- Greca, Greca is a female given name in Italian, that could stand for (Gre)en computing at (Ca)mpus Institute
- Grete, in honour of Margarete Kahn, who studied Mathematics at Göttingen University (among others with David Hilbert, Felix Klein, and Georg Elias Müller) an Berlin University. 1909 she was one of the first women who obtained a PhD in Mathematics at Göttingen University. In 1942 Margarete Kahn was deported to Piaski (Lublin administrative district, Poland) and later murdered in the Holocaust. For further information see here.
- Sofja, in honour of Sofya Vasilyevna Kovalevskaya, who in 1874 was the second woman to obtain a doctoral degree in Göttingen (or the first one in a modern sense). In her dissertation she delt with partial differential equations by the way, which fits the modeling aspects of dynamical systems very well. In addition, it is noteworthy how Göttingen at that time showed flexibility in its rules to make the degree possible. For further information see here.
